2 because of the truth, which lives in us and will be with us forever: 3 Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Father’s Son, will be with us in truth and love. 4 It has given me great joy to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as the Father commanded us. 5 And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command but one we have had from the beginning. I ask that we love one another. 6 And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.
2 John 2-6
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]The living truth. Truth that lives inside the believing soul. The truth of the Gospel is this; God was made incarnate as man, lived sinlessly, died unjustly, rose victoriously, lives forever, and will return in glory. The love that it took to do those things is the love that lives in the heart of the child of God. He has given all the love and power through the Holy Spirit needed to do His will and be His ambassadors.
It’s not a complex command, but the emotions regarding how, when and why a person chooses to love are the keys to success or failure in it. Here are a few promises from God’s Word;
- Verse 2 – Truth lives. It is constant, abiding and endures forever. It is inescapable.
- Verse 3 – Central to faith, the entire trinity is wrapped up in this truth. God is present in this truth and remains within us.
- Verse 4 – This is a command not a suggestion. We do not have the right to pick and choose the truth we will live by.
- Verse 5 – What is this truth? It is as old as time itself. That we love one another.
- Verse 6 – How do we know we are loving one another? We will obey not only these but all commands of God. You are to walk in love.
Walk in this love it commands. The God whose love sent heaven’s treasure to us in the humility of the dirt of earth, to live a blameless life, to be mocked, to be misunderstood, to be maliciously spoken of, to be betrayed and ultimately murdered in our place for our sin… asks of us to do one thing; Love one another.
As the time of His arrival draws near here are a few heart-probing questions to consider:
- How have you acknowledged lately the depth of love given to you in Christ?
- When relationships are compromised, what truths are tempting to dispense with?
- What behaviors / attitudes must be adjusted daily to God’s thinking?
- What ways can you show love and still address concerns and sins in a relationship?
- What opportunities is God providing for you to be challenged when it is hard to love?
- What will you do about all of the above?
